Toastmasters International The Toastmasters organization began in 1924, in Santa Ana, California and has grown over the years to have nearly 250,000 members in over 12,000 clubs in 106 countries. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking, vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind. It is basic to this mission that Toastmasters International continually expand its worldwide network of clubs, thereby offering ever greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from its programs. District 60 "District 60" is an umbrella organization that represents various Toastmasters clubs in the local geographic area. It traces its beginnings back to 1952. The number of Toastmasters clubs is constantly expanding. District 60 recently had over 300 clubs and 6,500 members under its umbrella. In 2008-2009, District 60 split into District 60 and District 86. Queen's Park Toastmasters continues to be a member of District 60, which remains one of the strongest Districts within the Toastmasters International organization, having achieved Distinguished District status or better 26 times. Members of District 60 have competed at the World Championship of Public Speaking at least ten times, winning the gold award on two occasions. District 60 hosts two conferences every year: the Fall Conference and the Spring Conference. - at the Fall Conference there are two speech contests: 1. Humerous Speech Contest, and 2. Table Topics Contest. - at the Spring Conference there are two speech contests: 1. International Speech Contest, and 2. Speech Evaulation Contest. The Mission of the Club The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. |
